Going back to 1970 remembering those in our class who have passed on. In the left column there are known links to obituaries, which are publicly available on the Internet. Elmira News

Elmira like many small towns has struggled with a declining population, decreasing tax revenue, and keeping jobs in the area but even so it is surprising to know that Elmira has the worst economy in upstate NY.  City Data provides an in-depth profile of Elmira

Elmira’s Church Street welcome sign (after exiting route 86/17) was erected in 2003. Can you identify everyone?

M&M Red Hots is still open and the hot dogs are as good as ever. Opened only on weekdays from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm

July 7, 2017 Update

posted Jul 7, 2017, 11:19 AM by Joe Fahs   [ updated Jul 7, 2017, 11:19 AM ]

We now have the following number of classmates and guests registered for our events:
   28 - Friday night mixer

Remember, the cut-off date to pay the early registration fees is to have them postmarked by July 31.  After that date, the prices go up $4/person for Saturday and $2/person for Sunday.  Also, all registrations have to be in and paid by September 1 so we can give the venues the firm counts.  Friday night is just walk-in, no registration needed, but we would appreciate you registering so we have an idea of how many people to plan for.

There are two ways to register.  Just go to our web site www.efa67.net/reunion50 where you can either register on line (but you have to mail your payment in) or print off the registration form and mail it with your check.  Who to make the check payable to and where to mail it is noted at bottom of each form.

You will also find two other important links on the web site that are updated frequently:
   * List of registered classmates who agreed to have their names listed
    ("Who Is Coming")
   * List of classmates we have been unable to find ("Who Is Missing")

If you have questions or concerns, please email them to:
efa1967reunion@gmail.com or you can call Patricia (Pat) Mysnyk Nelson at 607-739-9911.

What activities are you participating in your retirement? Let's add some ideas.

Join a Yoga class

AARP has an awesome Special Yoga Report to help get you started or if you are an experienced Yogi. Read these many benefits from Yoga as you age. From my experience Yoga is excellent at improving balance, coordination, developing confidence, and strengthening the core but not so much for losing weight. The trick is to start slow but be persistent and develop a routine. You may have to experiment to find the right class and teacher for you.  It is about continual, self-improvement no matter where you start and how much you progress from week to week (or whatever frequency you commit to).  This Yoga for Living Flipboard is a collection of related online articles.

Take courses online

Free  or low cost online courses have become increasingly popular and provide a great opportunity to learn something new including becoming more experienced with technology. Most courses only required a web browser and a reasonably fast Internet connection. I took a (free) course offered by FutureLearn.com and found the experience rewarding. You can browse courses and sign up to joinany. There is no obligation to finish or keep up with the work if you find the course does not meet your needs. A new $90 MasterClass.comcourse that will be offered in the fall: Dr. Jane Goodall Will Teach an Online Course About Conserving Our Environment .

It was great having Bonnie Hildreth Colelli—who lives near Fairbanks, Alaska!--join us for our most recent lunch on May 4.
Our next lunch is scheduled for Saturday, June 22, at Pietro’s Restaurant in Elmira at 1:00.  Pietro’s is on the corner of Washington Ave and Davis Street, next to Rossi Bowling Lanes.  Mark your calendars now and hope to see you there.

Who’s Who
Bonnie Hildreth (visiting Elmira from Alaska) is the person on the lower right; proceeding counterclockwise are:  Dave Senkiw, Jeff Etkind, Sherry Sutton Brown, Janet Swezey Dean, Dawn Shacter Dewey and Pat Mysnyk Nelson.
