Time sure does have a way of getting away this time of the year!
Here are the minutes from our last Reunion Planning Meeting, held on
10/30.
Please note that, due to the holidays, we will not meet in Nov or Dec
and will get underway in earnest in January on a different day and time
- see end of minutes for details.
Attendees: Joe Fahs, (Dee Dee Shacter) Dewey, Ginny (Black) Ellis,
Pat (Mysnyk) Nelson
1 - Location for Saturday night of the reunion weekend
The best location for Saturday night seems to be the Holiday Inn in
Horseheads. They have consistently been the most responsive and
helpful in discussions with Dee Dee and the prices for a buffet are
reasonable. Dee Dee has done a lot of work talking with many other
places (thanks, Dee Dee!) and we keep coming back to the Hshds Holiday
Inn being able to best meet our needs. We also think there's a
distinct advantage to using a hotel in that we hope to be able to negotiate
good rates for a block of rooms for those who need a place to stay while
in town....or for "locals" who may prefer to get a room Sat
night instead of driving home. We will try to have a future planning
meeting there to talk with their meeting person if we can work it out....more
to follow as things develop.
2 - Getting information out and solving multiple database issues
We will be exploring ways to get the word out about the reunion and
needing contact information between now and our January meeting; Pat
will be mapping the various databases we have to see if we can consolidate
what appears to be the latest information into one "database of
record" for us to work from.
3 - Next meeting
We are going to move the day and time of the next meeting to see if
we can get more participants. Right now we are planning the next
meeting for:
Saturday, January 14 -- Noon
to 2 pm
Location: Hanover Grille,
Horseheads
Feedback: Please post any comments, thoughts, ideas you might
have to this list. Discussion is good and, although we probably
can't please everyone, we are interested in your input. Thanks
and we hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

I know there has been a lot of discussion about other times/places,
but nothing firm has materialized so we will hold the previously-scheduled
Sunday, Oct 30th meeting for those who have planned to attend. It will
be from 5-7 at the Hanover Grille in Horseheads (right in Hanover Square).
For those of you who might not be familiar with the Hanover Grille,
I wanted to let you know that it is really two establishments in one....it
has a typical pub/bar on one side, totally separated except for a doorway
from the restaurant side. We know some folks don't imbibe and wanted
you to know that we have been meeting on the restaurant side and they
have been extremely accommodating. Some of us order munchies or food
and some just drink soda or iced tea and the waitress brings us whatever
we need and they don't care what we spend or how long we're there. We
typically gather up at the front of the restaurant side, along the window
facing Main Street--where there are tables we can put together to accommodate
whoever shows up.
We have had 4 meetings there and had settled on the last Sunday of the
month, from 5-7, as the date/time that worked for the majority of attendees.
We have no problem with moving to another schedule or planning other
get-togethers that are more social in nature. The 3 meetings we've had
have been helpful to get things kick-started, but we're getting close
to the point--once I have the various databases linked up--where the
most important thing will be tracking down current address/contact info
for classmates so we can begin the planning and information-sharing
in earnest.
If someone can get consensus on something that works better for the
routine meetings, we'll be happy to move them--dates/times/places--to
whatever suits the majority. We really do need regularly-scheduled planning
meetings that folks can put on their calendars and plan on ahead of
time, but other mini-reunion/get-togethers for dinner and the like could
help fill in the gaps and provide options for those who can't commit
to the more detailed planning meetings but want to stay in touch. Send
your suggestions to this list and we'll see what falls out and hope
we see a few more of you on the 30th!

8/28/05 Meeting Notes
Attending: Jeff Etkind, Joe Fahs, DeeDee Schacter Dewey, Janet Swezey
Dean, Pat Mysnyk Nelson
We chose dates for the reunion weekend....July 20 (Friday) through July
22 (Sunday), 2007. This will provide a firm planning target for us as
well as for classmates who want to attend. We know it won't be perfect
for everyone but, with nearly two years of advance notice, it will help
people plan around it while they can. We're looking at sa casual get-together
for Friday night, informal dinner and DJ for Saturday night and some
kind of outdoor picnic-type event for Sunday at one of the area parks.
Again, just preliminary thinking but based on what seemed to have worked
best in the past.
DeeDee has done a lot of research on possible places and we're evaluating
the pros and cons. Most places don't book this far ahead, but we want
to have a short list soon to plan from when the time is right to start
locking things down.
We are going to work on getting our various databases in synch so we
can start the arduous task of tracking people down and getting the word
out. Also, we will be trying to get a notice in the "Neighbors"
column of the Star Gazette letting people know to whom to forward their
contact information.
========== Come if you can and join us on Sunday. If you can't be there,
just send us a note with your thoughts and suggestions!
Thanks! Pat Mysnyk Nelson
